Vaccine recommendations for children and youth for the 2020/2021 influenza season
Organization: Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS)Published: 2020
Abstract
The Canadian Paediatric Society continues to encourage annual influenza vaccination for ALL children and youth 6 months of age and older. Recommendations from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) for the 2020/2021 influenza season are not substantially changed from those of last season except for permitting the use of live attenuated influenza vaccine in selected children with well-controlled HIV infection. Quadrivalent vaccine, if available, is recommended for children 6 months to 17 years of age. Either inactivated influenza vaccine or live attenuated influenza vaccine may be used for children and youth 2 to 17 years of age who are not immunocompromised. LAIV will again be available in Canada for the 2020/2021 season. NACI has also addressed issues related to provision of influenza vaccine during the COVID-19 pandemic.
