Jeannette Comeau

Dr Jeannette Comeau is a Pediatric Infectious Diseases Physician and Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. In addition to clinical work, she is an Investigator at the Canadian Centre for Vaccinology (CCfV). She completed her MD at Dalhousie University, followed by residency training in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases at McGill University and a fellowship in Vaccinology at the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS), Sydney, Australia.

At NCIRS, Dr. Comeau was involved with clinical trials, as well as with the national surveillance group, PAEDS, looking at vaccine efficacy and safety. She additionally was a Senior Registrar at a weekly Special Immunisation Clinic for pediatric patients who had had a suspected adverse events following immunisation (AEFIs), as well as for patients and families who had questions around safety and/or were vaccine questioning / hesitant.

After returning to Canada in 2017, at CCfV, Dr. Comeau has been involved as a co-investigator on Phase 1/2 and 3 clinical trials.  Additionally, she was a co-PI on a qualitative research project seeking to evaluate attitudes and knowledge about the HPV vaccine within the school system and Grade 7 parents (the grade at which this vaccine is offered through the school-based program in our province).

In addition to vaccine research, Dr. Comeau is the Medical Director, Infection Prevention & Control at the IWK Health Centre, Halifax.  In this role, she has been co-lead of the COVID-19 pandemic response, working closely with Nova Scotia Public Health.  She is also the co-lead for Antimicrobial Stewardship at the IWK Health Centre and Program Director for the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Subspecialty Residency Training Program at Dalhousie University.
